Biden talks about Brexit and expresses concern about borders in Ireland

It is the first time that the US President-elect has spoken about the Brexit process. To journalists, Joe Biden defended the continuation of the open borders in Ireland.

United States President-elect Joe Biden expressed concern about Brexit, notably the issue of borders, a process whose negotiations are still ongoing between the European Union and the United Kingdom. In addition, an extraordinary session of the European Parliament should take place on 28 December to approve a possible post-Brexit agreement even before the end of the year.

Joe Biden stated that he is against a “guarded border” in Ireland, that is, he does not advocate the return to a hard border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
