The Ibrahim African Governance Index (IIAG) declined in 2019 for the first time since 2010, according to the report published today.
The overall average score decreased 0.2 points in 2019 to 48.8 from 49 points in 2018, representing the first annual drop in a decade.
The recent decline is attributed to a deterioration in performance in three of the four categories of the IIAG: “Participation, rights and inclusion”, “Security and the rule of law” and “Human development”.
