Public Prosecutor’s Office asks court to investigate whether Bolsonaro Government favoured his son

The Brazilian Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) on Wednesday asked the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) to investigate whether the President, Jair Bolsonaro, uses federal government organs and resources to benefit his investigated children.

In the document, Deputy Attorney Lucas Furtado asks to investigate whether Bolsonaro “determined the use of public resources – time, structure and employees – from the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) and from the Institutional Security Office (GSI), not only for assistance private interests of you and your family, as to cause embarrassment and hinder investigation by the Federal Revenue Service of illegal acts of which your son, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, is a suspect ”.

At issue is a report by Época magazine, which denounced that Flávio Bolsonaro’s lawyers mobilized federal government bodies, brokered by the head of state, to try to nullify the investigations involving Bolsonaro’s son’s former adviser, Fabrício Queiroz.

Queiroz and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro are suspected of operating a money diversion scheme through the appropriation of part of the salary of former employees of the President’s son in the Legislative of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), an illegal practice known by the term ‘rachadinha’.

The deputy prosecutor says that if confirmed as suspicious, Bolsonaro’s action can be characterized as public diversion. In this case, it would be up to TCU to ascertain the impact on public assets and the responsibility of those involved.

“Of course, if confirmed as suspicious, the fact would constitute an extremely serious occurrence, including with common criminal prevention and liability, outside the jurisdiction of that Court of Auditors”, points out the text, on other judicial sanctions.

“Finally, it should also be noted that the facts reported denote, in theory, defective use of public office, interference in the performance of official bodies, supposedly motivated by political-personal interests, which may characterize a possible crime of responsibility, for attempting against the country’s internal security and probity in Public Administration, under the terms of the Federal Constitution ”, added the deputy attorney.

On Wednesday, GSI Minister Augusto Heleno denied that he acted in defense of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and accused the author of the report, journalist Guilherme Amado, of affronting “intellectual honesty”.

“Journalist Guilherme Amado once again faces intellectual honesty and accuses GSI and ABIN of participating in the defense of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. The two institutions did not carry out any procedure or action in this matter, precisely because they are not affected by Institutional Security ”, wrote the minister on the social network Twitter.

After the report by the magazine revista, the Rede Sustentabilidade party added to the Supreme Court a request for removal of Augusto Heleno and the head of Abin, Alexandre Ramagem, for using government resources to find evidence to support a thesis for the defense of Flávio Bolsonaro that the senator was the victim of a debauchery at the IRS.

“The President of the Republic and his subordinates cannot use a public machine for strictly personal purposes. You cannot end this attempt to return to the patrimonialist administration ”, maintained the party.
