Finance Minister estimates, this year, there will be 708.700 civil servants and that the number will rise by 1.1%, to 716.500, at the end of 2021.
Socialist governments led by António Costa should be able to create more than 57 thousand public jobs between the end of 2015 and the end of 2021, according to Dinheiro Vivo newspaper based on official data and new forecasts from the Ministry of Finance, in the State Budget proposal for next year (OE2021).
Regarding the mentioned increase of 57.300 civil servants, about 12.400 workers (more than a fifth) refer to the net hiring of professionals since the pandemic began in March.
According to the OE2021 proposal, delivered to Parliament on Monday night, the Ministry of Finance estimates that it will reach the end of this year with about 708.7 thousand civil servants and that this number will rise by around 1.1% , to 716.500 at the end of 2021.
This is an annual growth that is in line with what is expected for employment at the national level, which should increase by 1% as well. These figures allow us to draw another conclusion: since the time of the troika, Portugal did not have so many civil servants.
