A survey conducted in 130 countries provides the first global data showing Covid-19’s devastating impact on access to mental health services and highlights the urgent need for increased funding.

The Covid-19 pandemic interrupted or suspended essential mental health services in 93% of countries in the world, at a time when the demand for this health care is increasing, reveals a WHO survey released this Monday.

The survey conducted in 130 countries provides the first global data showing Covid-19’s devastating impact on access to mental health services and highlights the urgent need for increased funding.

The survey, which was carried out between June and August this year, in 130 countries in the six regions of the World Health Organization, assesses how the provision of mental, neurological and substance use services has changed due to Covid-19, the types of services that were interrupted and how countries are adapting to overcome these challenges.
