Brazil invites DiCaprio to visit the Amazon

The Brazilian vice-president, General Hamilton Mourão, today invited Leonardo DiCaprio to visit the Amazon, to “learn how things work”, after the American actor criticized the Government’s position regarding the fires in that forest

“The Amazon is not a single thing. There are 22 different types of forest here, it is not a single forest and much less is it a plain, ”said Mourão today, at a meeting of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) on sustainable development in the Amazon.

“I would like to invite our most recent critic, actor Leonardo DiCaprio, to come with me here to São Gabriel da Cachoeira and we will do an eight-hour march through the jungle (…). He will learn, in each socavão (hole) that he has to pass, that the Amazon is not a plain and there he will better understand how things work in this immense region ”, added the general, quoted by the local press.

In addition to the vice-presidency of Brazil, Mourão heads the National Council of the Legal Amazon, an entity that coordinates several actions aimed at the preservation of what is the largest tropical forest in the world.
