China has new infections for the third consecutive day

China has identified 127 cases of covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the third consecutive day with more than a hundred cases, the vast majority in Xinjiang, in the northwest of the country, the National Health Commission said on Friday.

The Xinjiang Autonomous Region recorded 112 new cases. In Liaoning province, in northeastern China, 11 more were diagnosed. All of these cases occurred due to local contagion.

The country also detected four cases among travelers from abroad, the so-called “imported” cases.

The number represents an increasing trend in recent days: 105 cases on Wednesday, 101 on Tuesday and 68 on Monday.

The same source detailed that, until midnight (17:00 hours on Thursday, in Lisbon), 17 patients were discharged and eight were admitted in serious condition.

The total number of active cases in mainland China stood at 684, of which 41 are in serious condition.

The Commission did not announce any further deaths from covid-19, so the number remained at 4,634 out of a total of 84,292 patients officially diagnosed in China since the pandemic began. More than 78,974 overcame the disease and were discharged.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 667,000 deaths and infected more than 17 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the France-Presse news agency (AFP).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
