The Emirate probe “Al-Amal” (Esperança), the first Arab space mission to the planet Mars, took off today (Monday at the site) from the Tanegashima Space Center in southwest Japan, after two postponements due to bad weather.

“The H-IIA launcher number 42, carrying the Hope mission to Mars, from the United Arab Emirates, took off at 06:58 and 14 seconds, Japanese time” (Sunday 22:58 in Portugal), according to a statement from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the Japanese company in charge of the launch, which was broadcast live online.

Five minutes after its departure, the rocket carrying the probe released its first propellants and followed the predicted trajectory.
