The death toll in Africa due to covid-19 has now risen to 12,756, up 313 in the last 24 hours, in about 559,000 cases, according to the most recent data on the continent’s pandemic.
According to the African Union’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the number of infected people has risen to 559,013, an additional 17,632 in the last 24 hours, while the number of recovered people is now 273,882, plus 9,161.
Southern Africa has the highest number of cases (259,589) and accounts for 3,999 deaths, the vast majority concentrated in South Africa, the country with the most deaths and the most infected across the continent, with 250,687 cases and 3,860 fatalities.
