“Unknown pneumonia” is sweeping Kazakhstan, warns Chinese embassy

Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan on Thursday alerted Chinese citizens living in the country to local pneumonia, of unknown cause, which has a mortality rate “much higher” than Covid-19.

Unknown pneumonia in Kazakhstan caused 1772 deaths in the first six months of the year, including 628 people in June alone, including Chinese citizens, the embassy said in a statement published on the WeChat platform on Thursday. “The mortality rate from the disease is much higher than that of covid-19,” says the embassy statement, cited by the Global Times.

Organizations such as the Kazakhstan Ministry of Health are studying the “pneumonia virus”, the embassy said.
