The US exit process from the World Health Organization (WHO) is expected to be effective as of July 6, 2021.
US President Donald Trump has officially withdrawn the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO), which he accuses of mismanagement of the new coronavirus pandemic, Senator Robert Menendez announced on Monday.
“Congress has received notification that the President has officially withdrawn the United States from WHO in the midst of a pandemic,” wrote the Democratic Senator, a member of the Senatorial Committee on Foreign Affairs, according to the news agency France-Presse (AFP).
Also the Spanish news agency Efe, citing a White House official who asked not to be identified, indicated that the United States began the process of withdrawing from WHO, which will only happen within a year, a decision that, he recalls, arrives in the middle of a pandemic crisis associated with covid-19.
“The notice of departure from the United States, which will become effective on July 6, 2021, has been sent to the UN Secretary-General [António Guterres], who is the depositary of WHO,” the source told Efe.
