Military personnel from India and China meet to fight tensions in Kashmir

Military commanders from India and China met today for the third time in an attempt to resolve a month-long conflict in the disputed region of Kashmir, Indian officials said.

The intention of the governments of the two countries is to gradually reduce tensions, with new meetings between high-ranking military officers being planned in the coming days, to guarantee stabilization and peace in the region.

The meeting, which took place on the Indian side of the disputed border, came days after the head of the Indian army, M.M. Naravane, having visited the area, in Ladaque, to review the state of the troops, after a hand-to-hand combat between solidified Indian and Chinese, on June 15, which caused 20 deaths in the Indian military forces.

The Chinese side never mentioned casualties on its side.

In the Indian authorities’ version, the current stalemate began in early May, when large numbers of Chinese soldiers entered India-controlled territory in three zones of Ladaque, in the Kashmir region, erecting tents.

According to the Indian Government, Chinese soldiers ignored repeated verbal warnings, sparking a conflict that spread throughout the region, which has been the subject of dispute between the two countries, along a border established after a war between India and India. China in 1962, which resulted in an unstable truce.

In the face of tensions at the border, known as the “real line of control”, Indian protesters have been calling for a boycott of Chinese products since the June 15 clashes.

As a result, the Indian government on Monday banned 59 Internet applications linked to China, including the popular TikTok platform, claiming that its activities endanger the country’s sovereignty, defense and security.

Nitin Gadkari, Indian Transport Minister, said his government would also not allow Chinese companies to participate in investments in the region.
