Afghan forces had the bloodiest week in 19 years of conflict

Last week was “the bloodiest” for Afghan security forces in 19 years of conflict in the country, with 291 deaths at the hands of the Taliban, the Kabul government announced on Monday.

In these seven days “(…) the Taliban launched 422 attacks in 32 provinces, in which they killed 291 members (of the security forces) and wounded 550,” wrote Javid Faisal, a spokesman for the National Security Council (NSC), an agency governmental.

“The Taliban’s commitment to reducing violence does not make sense,” he added on Twitter.
