Amnesty International accuses Mozambique

Amnesty International (AI) accused the authorities of maintaining the prison and in inhuman conditions 18 months ago, 16 refugees and asylum seekers, pointing out that this situation constitutes a “violation of human rights”.

The position of the non-governmental organization (NGO) in defense of human rights appears in a statement released today, when it was marked on World Refugee Day.

“The Mozambican authorities have held 16 African refugees and silos claimants in prison in inhumane conditions for 18 months, without them having committed any crime,” says the AI ​​statement.

According to an NGO, the group was arbitrarily detained on January 17, 2019 and consisted of 15 Congolese and one Ethiopian.

The 16 refugees were handcuffed and allegedly beaten by immigration policies and agents, no refugee camps in Maratane, Nampula province, northern Mozambique, said or reported.
