The year is 1925. With China shaken by internal conflicts, the 20-year-old peasant Akit Wu leaves the village of Taishan in Guangdong province for Brazil.
After three months of sea crossing, he and his brother, Aphou, land in Rio.
Installed in Cordovil, a neighborhood in the north of the city, Akit worked as a marketer, studied fine arts and started to earn his living as a portrait artist in a photography workshop.
