Panic night in Cabo Delgado

The Center for Democracy and Development, a non-governmental organization supported by Swiss, Swedish, Norwegian and British government programs, denounced today in a statement a panic night in Mocímboa da Praia, a village in the province of Cabo Delgado.

Mozambican President Filipe Niusy assured last week that “Mozambicans will not repeatedly tolerate the blackmail of cyclical warfare by groups of individuals manipulated to support the ego of internal and external elites”, admitting, for the first time, the involvement of military elites in deadly attacks so far officially assigned to “faceless armed groups”.

Plataforma published a warning cry from Bisto de Pemba: “We have suffered for three years without knowing why we are being attacked. Three years ago everything changed in our lives. We cry with pain and sadness. We live on the run without knowing where ”, warns Bishop of Pemba, in Mozambique, Dom Luiz Fernando Lisboa, to describe the situation experienced by the population of Cabo Delgado, in the face of the terrorist attacks that the region has been targeted.

The statement issued today by the NGO states that, “in addition to the scare on Tuesday night, the forced disappearance of at least ten girls last week worsened the feeling of insecurity in the village. The population believes that the victims were abducted by terrorists in the neighborhoods of Nabubussi and Nacala, on the outskirts of the village of Mocímboa da Praia ”.

The Center for Democracy and Development ends the statement by stating that “as long as the attacks do not cease, the humanitarian crisis continues to gain ground and to win new victims. If in the areas affected by the attacks there are no security conditions for humanitarian assistance to families who are still at home, in places where displaced people are sheltered, support is not available for everyone. Tents, food and hygiene products are the main shortages in accommodation centers installed in the Metuge district, with around 10,000 displaced people ”.
