Brazil: one thousand dead and 32.091 newly infected

Brazil returned today to overcome the barrier of a thousand daily deaths by covid-19, having registered 1,272 deaths and 32,091 infected in the last 24 hours, according to data released today by the Brazilian executive.

In total, the South American country has a total of 38,406 fatalities and 739,503 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic, officially registered in Brazil at the end of February.

According to the tutelage of Health, the lethality of covid-19 in the country is today at 5.2%, and Brazil has so far recovered 311,064 infected patients.

After several days of omitting the data accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic, the Brazilian government, led by President Jair Bolsonaro, returned today to release the accumulated numbers and proportional rates of contagions and deaths due to the new coronavirus.

In the past few days, the Ministry of Health has only reported confirmed deaths and infections in the previous 24 hours, a situation that has caused protests in different sectors, which accused the Brazilian Government of making access to information more difficult.

In view of the partial disclosure of the numbers, the Supreme Court of Brazil (STF) of Brazil came to determine on Monday that the Ministry of Health should resume the disclosure of the accumulated data of the pandemic of covid-19 within 48 hours, contrary to the decision of the Government.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed nearly 408,000 deaths and infected more than 7.1 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to the balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
