State reduces presence in mining activity

The National Diamond Company (Endiama) officially lost its concessionaire role, within the framework of the new Governance Model of the Mining Sector, published, Tuesday, in Diário da República.

The public company, which, in addition to being an operator, acted as an exclusive concessionaire in managing the value chain of the diamond subsector, now has operational and business functions. The concessionary activity, under the new Governance Model of the Mining sector, is the responsibility of the newly created National Agency for Natural Resources, which is also responsible, among other duties, for monitoring the execution of mining contracts and performing the certification functions. and contrast public ones.

The new Governance Model of the Mining sector, according to the Presidential Decree that approves it, results from the observation of a “strong direct presence of the State” as an economic agent in the Mining sector, but also of an “excessive burden of national concessionaires, with tasks and administrative inspection activities that made it difficult to concentrate on your business object ”, reads the preamble.
