Number of visitor arrivals to Macau in March falls by 93.7%

The number of visitor arrivals to Macau in March of this year totalled 212,300 people, a drop of 93.7% compared to the same month of 2019, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, said the region”s Statistics and Census Bureau.

However, this figure represents an increase of 35.8% compared to that recorded in February of this year, when 156,300 people visited Macau. The Bureau added, however, that the number of visitors from Hong Kong arriving on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge rose by 131.3% compared with the previous month.

The Statistics and Census Bureau pointed out that the average visitor stay was 3.0 days, or 1.8 days more, on year.

The number of visitor arrivals to Macau in March from mainland China totalled 88,800, a drop of 96.3% year on year.

In the first quarter of 2020 Macau received 3.2 million visitors, 68.9% fewer compared with the same period of 2019, and the average length of stay was 1.4 days, up by 0.3 days compared with the same month of 2019.
