Crystal Palace won the fifth edition of the Conference League in football today, by defeating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the final in Leipzig, Germany, with a goal from French forward Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 51st minute.
Crystal Palace became the third English club to lift the newest continental club competition, repeating the triumphs of Chelsea last season and West Ham in 2022/23, facing Spain’s Rayo Vallecano, who also made their debut in European finals.

With today’s victory by the Londoners, following Aston Villa’s Europa League triumph with a 3-0 win over Freiburg—who eliminated Sporting de Braga in the semifinals—England could achieve a clean sweep if Arsenal, who eliminated Sporting in the quarterfinals, prevails over French side Paris Saint-Germain, the European champions, in the Champions League final on Saturday.
This victory also marks the last match for Crystal Palace under manager Oliver Glasner, who leaves the South London club with an historic three trophies won. The Austrian managed the English club for only 12 months, yet was responsible for three of the seven major honours in the club’s history.
