The president of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV), Francisco Carvalho, stated today that Cape Verdeans spoke clearly by granting the party an absolute majority in the legislative elections.
“The people of Cape Verde have sent a clear message: the time has come to change the governance of the country,” Carvalho declared during his victory speech at 00:15 local time at the PAICV headquarters in the capital city of Praia.

He noted that the definitive confirmation of the political shift came after the final voting data from overseas constituencies was processed. According to the party leader, the arrival of the remaining election results from the Cape Verdean diaspora in the Americas officially secured the necessary parliamentary seats to guarantee an outright absolute majority for the party.
This decisive victory marks a significant turning point in Cape Verde’s political landscape, signaling a mandate for programmatic changes and new national leadership.
