Rudy Giuliani, the 81-year-old former Mayor of New York City and former personal attorney to Donald Trump, has been hospitalized in “stable but critical condition,” according to a statement from his spokesperson, Ted Goodman. While the specific nature of his illness remains undisclosed, Giuliani has been recovering from a significant car accident that occurred in late 2024.
The news prompted a swift response from Donald Trump, who took to Truth Social to label Giuliani the “Best Mayor in the History of New York City” while simultaneously doubling down on previous claims regarding the 2020 presidential election. Goodman requested that the public “join us in prayer for America’s Mayor,” a title Giuliani earned for his leadership following the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Giuliani’s recent years have been marked by legal and physical challenges. After serving as a central figure in Trump’s 2016 campaign and subsequent administration, he became the face of efforts to challenge the 2020 election results. These activities eventually led to a $148 million defamation judgment against him for false claims made about election workers.

Adding to his recent struggles, Giuliani was involved in a severe traffic collision in New Hampshire last September. During that incident, “He suffered a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg, his security guard said at the time,” according to the BBC.
Despite his controversial political standing in recent years, Giuliani remains a historic figure, having received an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 2002 and pursuing a presidential bid in 2008. His current medical situation marks a grave turn for the man once celebrated globally for his resilience during New York’s darkest hours.
