Samsung Electronics has reported a massive surge in profitability for the first quarter of 2026, with net profits multiplying nearly six times compared to the previous year. The South Korean tech giant credits this explosive growth to the unrelenting global demand for advanced semiconductors essential for powering artificial intelligence (IA).

According to the group’s financial statement, net profit for the first three months of the fiscal year reached 47.2 trillion won (approximately 27 billion euros). Overall revenue for the period climbed to 133.9 trillion won (over 77 billion euros). The company attributed these record-breaking quarterly figures to its proactive response to market needs and significant technological innovations within the AI sector.

The driving force behind these results was the Device Solutions (DS) division, which specializes in memory chips. The division alone accounted for 81.7 trillion won in sales, benefiting from the soaring demand for high-value-added AI components and a general increase in industry-wide chip prices.

Samsung has solidified its position alongside SK Hynix as a critical player in the high-performance chip market, a sector currently defined by an international race to keep pace with AI developments.

The financial success aligns with the South Korean government’s broader ambition to establish the nation as one of the world’s top three AI superpowers, rivaling the United States and China.

The news had an immediate impact on the financial markets, with Seoul’s Kospi index opening at a new record high, surpassing 6,700 points following the publication of Samsung’s results and strong performances from American tech giants.
