Federal authorities are increasingly convinced that the armed individual who attempted to storm the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday was driven by deep-seated political animosity toward the Trump administration.

The suspect, 31-year-old mechanical engineer Cole Tomas Allen, reportedly sent a series of chilling messages to his family members just minutes before the confrontation. According to an official cited by The Associated Press, investigators view these communications—in which the suspect referred to himself as a “Friendly Federal Assassin”—as pivotal evidence in establishing a clear political motive for the attack.

The messages allegedly contained specific grievances against the government, including criticisms of recent naval operations against drug trafficking in the Eastern Pacific. Authorities are now cross-referencing these texts with an extensive history of anti-Trump content discovered on the suspect’s social media accounts.

The alarm was raised by Allen’s brother, who contacted police in New London, Connecticut, shortly after receiving the disturbing messages. His sister later told federal investigators that Allen had purchased the weapons legally in California and stored them at their parents’ home without their knowledge, describing her brother as an individual prone to making radical declarations.

Allen reportedly traveled by train from California to Chicago and finally to Washington, D.C., where he checked into the Washington Hilton days before the gala event. As Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche noted during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the evidence suggests a calculated intent to harm government officials:

“It seems that he really intended to attack the people who work in the government, probably including the President.”

The attempt to breach the ballroom was met with immediate resistance, leading to a chaotic scene where gunfire erupted. President Trump was hurriedly evacuated from the stage, and attendees were forced to scramble for cover under tables.

Allen is expected to appear in court on Monday to face criminal charges, as investigators continue to determine whether his hostility was targeted specifically at the President and Vice President JD Vance, or if it represented a broader vendetta against the administration.
