The Chief Executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region, Sam Hou Fai, chaired the fourth meeting of the Leadership Group for Promoting the Construction of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, during which the development of Macau’s International Air Transport Hub on the west bank of the Macao Pearl River was identified as a priority, with a special focus on the cargo terminal.
During the meeting, the plan to accelerate the construction of the cargo terminal at Macau International Airport in Hengqin was reviewed; this is considered a key project to strengthen Macau’s position in regional and international air logistics.
Authorities from Macau and Hengqin agreed to establish a special task force for the pilot project on palletized cargo handling at the terminal, to develop operational mechanisms to accelerate operations and improve logistics efficiency.
Sam Hou Fai emphasized that the airport’s development is essential to align the Macau SAR with the national 15th Five-Year Plan and to strengthen integration into the country’s development strategy.

The Chief Executive directed that the operational mechanisms of the task force be improved promptly, calling for the active participation and effective coordination of all relevant government departments.
The initiative aims to implement the central authorities’ guidelines in support of the joint development of Macao and Hengqin, particularly in the international air logistics sector.
The meeting was attended by several government officials, including those responsible for administration, security, social affairs, transportation, and public works, who will oversee the implementation of the measures outlined.
