Mozambique and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding today to strengthen cooperation in the transport and logistics sector, focusing on infrastructure modernization and training of Mozambican personnel, the government announced.
The agreement was signed by Mozambique’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, and Russia’s Minister, Andrey Nikitin, on the sidelines of the 2026 International Transport and Logistics Forum in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
“The memorandum aims to consolidate the logistical partnership between the two countries,” the Mozambican Ministry of Transport and Logistics said in a statement.

During the meeting, both ministers also discussed modernizing transport infrastructure and training Mozambican staff through Russia’s Transport University. Plans were mentioned to sign a future memorandum covering the maritime-port sector, reinforcing historical ties between the nations.
The first International Transport and Logistics Forum 2026 began on Wednesday and concluded today, bringing together high-level officials and government representatives from over 60 countries. The forum highlighted the importance of identifying alternative freight routes and advancing the digitalization of transport corridors in response to current geopolitical and economic challenges.
