Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández will miss Chelsea’s next two matches due to an internal suspension following remarks about Real Madrid that upset the London club, Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior revealed today.
During the international break, the 25-year-old, signed from Benfica for €121 million in 2023, said on a podcast that he would like to live in Madrid amid ongoing media speculation about a potential transfer to Real Madrid.
Fernández had also expressed uncertainty about his future at Chelsea last month after their Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
Rosenior confirmed that the suspension applies to Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final match against Port Vale on Saturday and the Premier League clash against Manchester City on April 12.

“I spoke to Enzo about an hour ago. As a club, and I was part of the decision, he will not be available for tomorrow’s game nor for the match against Manchester City,” Rosenior said, adding, “It’s disappointing that Enzo spoke in that way.”
He emphasized that the decision reflects the club’s culture and standards rather than personal issues, saying, “We’ve crossed a line in terms of our culture and what we want to build.”
Chelsea currently sits sixth in the Premier League with 48 points, 22 behind leaders Arsenal.
Interview with Chelsea player Enzo Fernández starts at 1:17:00.
