Demographic crisis forces Macau to rethink its school system

Macau’s education authorities have decided to establish a task force in response to a possible downsizing of schools amidst falling birth rates

The need to formulate the so-called ‘one-school, one policy’ approach came from Kong Chi Meng, the director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, who appeared before lawmakers on Tuesday for a Q&A session.

Over five schools have already expressed a formal interest in a merger, with the task force aimed at assisting school operators with navigating licensing and regulatory hurdles during their transition.
