Singer Carminho leads the nominations at the 8th edition of the Play awards for Portuguese music, with four nods, the organisation announced today.
Calema, Napa and Vizinhos follow with three nominations each, according to organiser Audiogest.
Carminho is nominated for best album (alongside Mizzy Miles, Gisela João and Calema), best female artist (alongside Bárbara Bandeira, MARO and Sara Correia), best fado album (alongside Raquel Tavares, Carlos Leitão and Gisela João) and the critics’ award (alongside Vaiapraia, Femme Falafel and Mão Morta).

The song of the year category features “Amar pela Metade” by Calema, “Champions League” by Mizzy Miles, Slow J and GSon, “Deslocado” by Napa, “Interestelar” by Plutonio, “Pôr do Sol” by Vizinhos, and “Tu na Tua” by Átoa, Luís Trigacheiro and Buba Espinho. Best male artist nominees are Buba Espinho, Papillon, Plutónio and Slow J, while best group contenders are Calema, Capitão Fausto, Napa and Vizinhos.
The Play awards cover 14 categories reflecting the “diversity and richness of Portuguese musical production.” The ceremony will take place on April 23 at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon, broadcast live on several RTP channels and Antena 1.
