Brazil’s Federal Police (PF) launched an operation today against drug and weapons trafficking across 15 states, with the objective of executing 112 arrest warrants, the institution announced.

Officers are also carrying out 180 search and seizure warrants against suspects linked to several criminal factions, including the Comando Vermelho and the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) — the two organisations considered by authorities to be Brazil’s most dangerous.

In the city of Campinas in São Paulo state, police are seeking 37 people for arrest, and around 70 million reais (€11 million) linked to more than 100 bank accounts have been frozen.

In São Luís, capital of Maranhão state, 297 million reais (€43.4 million) belonging to suspects have been frozen, along with the seizure of buildings and luxury vehicles. Operations in that city focused on cocaine and crack trafficking, with profits being laundered through shell companies.

In Manaus, officers concentrated on drug trafficking through the cargo terminal of the city’s international airport — the main gateway to the Brazilian Amazon. The operation, coordinated by the Federal Police, also involved regional and municipal security forces.
