Social network X suspended 800 million accounts in 2024 for violating the platform’s policies on manipulation and spam, an activity in which Russia stands out as the leading state actor.
At a hearing in the UK House of Commons, the company stated that in 2024 it suspended 800 million accounts for failing to follow its policies on manipulation and spam, and that several hundred million additional accounts were removed at the end of last year.

According to data from the organisation Statista, the social network has more than 415 million users globally and 300 million monthly active users.
While not detailing the accounts suspended for links to foreign interference, the social network revealed that Russia is the leading state actor with the most manipulation attempts on the platform, followed by Iran and China.
Regarding Russia-linked accounts, XCorp government affairs executive Wifredo Fernández explained that the removed accounts promoted a “particular narrative” intended to undermine the 2024 US presidential election and deepen political polarisation.
