The China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) delivered the humanitarian donation, valued at approximately US$50,000, to the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) on Tuesday. The handover ceremony took place at the INGD headquarters in Maputo, according to Xinhua.
This initiative underscores the ongoing collaboration between international partners and local authorities to address urgent humanitarian needs. It serves to reinforce the capacity of Mozambican institutions to respond effectively to climate-related shocks and recovery demands.
Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Zheng Xuan, who attended the event, highlighted the “long-standing traditional friendship” between the two nations. She reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Mozambique in addressing humanitarian challenges and advancing post-disaster recovery phases.
Yang Jin, General Manager of CNPC Mozambique, stated that the company adheres to principles of mutual benefit and integrates corporate social responsibility into its local operations.
“The donation reflects CNPC’s commitment to supporting local communities and responding to Mozambique’s urgent needs,” Yang said. He added that the company intends to continue promoting energy cooperation and public welfare initiatives to contribute to socio-economic development.
INGD President Luisa Meque accepted the donation, noting that the funds would help ease pressure on the institution’s resources. She assured that the institute would ensure proper management and effective use of the funds to provide direct assistance to those most in need.
