Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States, will chair a meeting of the United Nations Security Council once the United States assumes the rotating presidency of the body on March 2, the US presidency announced on Wednesday.
In a statement, the White House said that “First Lady Melania Trump is set to make history at the United Nations, as the United States takes over the presidency of the Security Council, by highlighting the role of education in promoting tolerance and global peace.”
For the first time, a sitting US First Lady will preside over a meeting of the Security Council, during which members will address issues such as education, technology, peace, and security.
A meeting titled “Children, Technology, and Education in Times of Conflict” is scheduled for the same day, according to the White House, with the participation of the United States’ representative to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, as well as other members of the Security Council.

The decision was communicated by the White House to the Security Council, according to United Nations sources, who said the message conveyed by US authorities included an appeal from Melania Trump for peace through education.
