More than a thousand Kenyans used by Russia as “cannon fodder” in Ukraine

More than a thousand Kenyans traveled to Russia with promises of employment and high salaries only to end up fighting against Ukraine, according to a report presented to Eastern African lawmakers.

Several media outlets, including the French agency AFP, have recently shown how hundreds of Kenyans, often with no military background, ended up fighting against Ukrainian troops, serving as “cannon fodder,” as described by Kenyan authorities.

Once they arrived in Russia, they were forced to sign a contract with the Russian army to be quickly transferred to the battlefront in Ukraine, where many were killed or wounded, according to AFP.
