Angola rescues three Chinese hostages, arrests two Vietnamese kidnappers

Three Chinese citizens were recently kidnapped in Angola for ransom. After receiving reports, the Angolan police quickly acted, arresting two primary Vietnamese suspects and an accomplice from Angola, successfully rescuing all the hostages. The case has entered judicial proceedings as of Monday (February 2).

Macao Daily

The incident occurred on January 30, when two victims were stopped while driving in Luanda and forcibly stuffed into the trunk of a vehicle. The kidnappers subsequently demanded a ransom of 5 million kwanzas (MOP43,000) from the victims’ families, threatening to kill the hostages if payment was not made. The families did not compromise and decisively reported the case to the police.

The police intervened immediately, monitoring the communication between the families and the kidnappers throughout the process. Ultimately, they arrested two Vietnamese suspects, aged 20 and 26, in the province of Icolo e Bengo, along with a 32-year-old Angolan man suspected of aiding the kidnappers.

Following this, the police conducted surprise searches in the Chinatown area of Luanda and in Zango, rescuing not only the two aforementioned victims but also unexpectedly freeing another Chinese citizen who had been imprisoned since January 29.
