As reported by Paris Match and covered by Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Monday, the decree pertains to the celebrity couple and their eight-year-old twins. Away from Hollywood, the actor, known for his iconic roles in the series “ER” and the “Ocean’s” franchise, along with his wife, a Lebanese-British lawyer, spend part of their life in France.
“I love French culture and its language, even though I’m still as bad as ever after 400 days of lessons,” the 64-year-old actor and director told RTL at the beginning of December. The couple purchased a country house and vineyard in Brignoles, a town in the Var department in southeastern France, in 2021.
“Here, we don’t take pictures of our kids. There are no paparazzi lurking around the school gates. That is essential for us,” he added in the same interview. Although the Clooney family does not spend all their time in southern France, this property is “the happiest place,” said the Oscar-winning actor known for his role in Syriana (2005).
Fellow American director Jim Jarmusch announced on France Inter radio on Friday his intention to apply for French citizenship. “I would love to have another place to escape to from the United States,” he declared, explaining his attraction to “French culture.”
