No. 1 signal to be hoisted Monday as city braces for looming ‘super typhoon’ Ragasa

Macau will hoist the No. 1 typhoon signal on Monday afternoon (22 September) as Tropical Storm Ragasa moves into the northern South China Sea, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said.

The storm is forecast to accelerate towards the Pearl River Estuary, coming within 100 kilometres of Macau early on Wednesday (24 September). The SMG warned that wind speeds could reach hurricane force, up to 220 km/h or higher, with prolonged strong winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms expected.

Authorities cautioned that storm surge flooding comparable to typhoons Hato and Mangkhut could occur if the surge coincides with high tides.
