The plots, located on the northern shore of Nam Van Lake, are designated as A3, A4, and A9. The Public Works Bureau announced that the base pit of plot A4 will be filled and leveled for temporary use, resolving a long-standing issue of water accumulation. The bureau stated that it has already completed the drainage and cleaning work on plots A3 and A4 and is currently surveying and documenting their conditions. Drainage work is still underway on plot A9 due to its “more complex structural conditions,” but weeds and debris have been cleared to prevent mosquito breeding.
To provide this temporary public space as soon as possible, the bureau will carry out the project in phases. This includes building a temporary lakeside walkway on plot A9 to connect with the columned portico of surrounding buildings and constructing a temporary plaza on plots A3 and A4 once the A4 base pit is filled. The basement will be repurposed as a public car park.
The authorities believe these measures will improve the environmental hygiene of the three plots and beautify the streetscape. By repurposing these three recovered plots in the city center, the government hopes to enhance Macau’s image as a tourist city and ensure the rational use of land resources.
