The Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau has reported that Typhoon Podul, a tropical cyclone in the northwestern Pacific, is continuing to strengthen as it moves rapidly westward. The typhoon is expected to affect Taiwan in the middle of this week, but due to its small circulation, its intensity is projected to weaken after making landfall.
Currently, different forecasting models show significant divergence in the typhoon’s subsequent path and development. While most numerical models predict a more northerly route towards the Fujian and Zhejiang area, some numerical and AI models forecast a more southerly path, which could bring it closer to the eastern coast of Guangdong. The bureau noted that it cannot be ruled out that Podul could move closer to the Guangdong coast after making landfall in Taiwan.
Due to the high uncertainty regarding Podul’s later path and intensity, the bureau has reminded the public that future weather changes are variable. Residents should pay attention to the latest weather information and prepare in advance.
