The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) announced the latest population statistics on August 5th, noting the decrease was partly due to a reduction in the number of non-resident workers.
In terms of gender, the female population stood at 369,400, outnumbering the male population of 316,500, and accounting for 53.9% of the total population.
There were 1,247 deaths in Macau during the first half of the year. The top three causes were tumors, diseases of the circulatory system, and diseases of the respiratory system, which accounted for 38.1%, 27%, and 10.7% of all deaths, respectively. The DSEC also stated that the number of live births and deaths decreased in the second quarter compared to the first, with 671 live births and 609 deaths.
Regarding population movement, 1,616 people from mainland China arrived with one-way permits in the first half of the year, while 895 people were newly granted residency permits. These figures represent year-on-year increases of 45 and 424 people, respectively.
