Driver injures multiple people in Liverpool championship celebrations

A collision during an event in Liverpool, UK, resulted in 27 people being hospitalized, including one adult and one child in serious condition.

The incident occurred on Monday (May 26) while thousands were celebrating Liverpool FC’s Premier League championship victory. A 53-year-old British man from the Liverpool area has been arrested. Police believe he is the driver of the car that caused the injuries.

The reasons for the incident are still unclear, but authorities state that it is not being treated as terrorism. Initial alerts about the incident were received by the police around 6 PM local time. The vehicle involved remained at the scene.

In addition to those hospitalized, 20 people were treated at the scene, including four children. When emergency services arrived, four individuals were trapped under the vehicle, including one child, according to the fire department. The vehicle was quickly removed so that the injured could be treated.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the “scenes in Liverpool as terrible” and thanked the emergency services for their swift response. “I saw what appeared to be at least three injured people being taken away,” reported BBC journalist Warren Moran, who was on the scene.
