In view of last year’s recovery of visitors from overseas markets, which was not as fast as the number of visitors from the Mainland and Hong Kong, the DST said earlier that this year’s promotions were mainly targeted at overseas visitor sources. Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the SAR this year, the DST has launched the “My Treats for You” travel promotion programme, which is especially targeted at international travellers (except those from the Greater China region), to give away 250,000 gifts covering air tickets, cross-boundary transport, hotel accommodations, food and beverage and amusement, and show ticket discounts, including the Hong Kong Cruise Travellers – Macau Transportation Concession to be launched soon. To further provide transport concessions to Macau, we will make use of multi-channels and multi-methods to attract travellers to experience the “Tourism Plus” element, expand international visitor sources and promote the tourism economy.
In an interview at the event on Sunday, Cheng said that the large-scale outdoor roadshow in Tokyo and the trade seminar had been well received, with more than 160 local travel trade organisations attending the seminar and more than 40 local media reporting on the event. DST will continue to promote this model in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Korea, hoping to reach out to the local travel trade and the public offline, and to launch various promotions online with transport and dining discounts. At the same time, DST will co-operate with travel agencies and associations in Spain and Portugal, and invite the travel trade and media in the target markets to visit Macau to introduce the latest tourism situation in the city.
The DST also hopes to leverage on the strengths of the Hong Kong Cruise Terminal and continue to co-operate with the cruise industry to offer discounts on ferry and bus tickets, etc., as well as to promote Macau’s cultural heritage and culinary elements, so as to attract international travellers to include Macau in their itineraries.
