Macau tops outbound destination market for mainland tourists in H1

Macau SAR secured the top position among outbound tourist destinations for Chinese mainland residents in the first half of 2023, according to the “Big Data Report on Outbound Tourism in the First Half of 2023” published by the China Tourism Academy.

Macau welcomed over half (50.9 per cent) of the total number of outbound visits by mainland tourists, with Hong Kong ranking second at 26.6 per cent and Taiwan third at 2.33 per cent, as indicated in a statement by the Government Information Bureau.

In the first six months of 2023, the SAR witnessed 11.6 million visitor arrivals, out of which 7.5 million were tourists from the mainland. The figure for mainland visitors represented a recovery to 52.7 per cent of what was recorded in the same six-month period of pre-pandemic 2019.
