Spain beat Croatia to win third Nations League

Spain won their third Nations League football tournament on Sunday, taking over from Portugal (2019) and France (2021) by beating Croatia 5-4 on penalties in the final after 120 goalless minutes.

In Rotterdam, in a goalless game in regulation time and extra time, goalkeeper Unai Simón was the ‘hero’ for the Spanish, stopping kicks from Majer and Petkovic, while the ‘roja’ only missed one, by Laporte, who shot over the bar.

The ‘roja’, who had been a winning finalist in 2021 (1-2 with France), add the Nations League to one World Cup victory (2010) and three European Championship wins (1964, 2008 and 2012).
