The alert for the murders was raised at 4am when police were called to Ilkeston Street, where two people were found dead.
Officers were later alerted to another incident in Milton Street, where a van was attempting to run over several people. Some of the injured are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
Another man was found dead on Magdala Street.
“This is a tragic incident which has caused the death of three people,” said Police Chief Constable Meynell.
