“When Leão arrived, he played for Instagram”

In an interview with the Muschio Selvaggio podcast, Paolo Maldini, Milan’s sporting director, commented on Rafael Leão’s evolution at the club.

“Rafael Leão is a crazy talent. I’m an esthete thanks to my father and the Lion is beautiful to look at, it’s something unique. He has everything to be a top player. He was on the bench at Lille and, when he arrived, I told him that I played for his Instagram, because he posted beautiful videos with dribbling and plays, but then he ended the season with two goals scored. We help you change that mindset. Someone with so much talent has to work even harder than others to exploit his talent,” said the former Milan and Italy international.

Maldini also spoke of the heartache of not having won the World Cup for Italy: “I don’t regret anything. What torments me the most is not having won a World Championship, for example. It’s better to win a trophy than a personal award”.
