It’s official. Grimaldo is reinforcement of Bayer Leverkusen. At the end of his contract with Benfica, the Spanish left-back is leaving Luz at zero cost. The Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Grimaldo had said that the player had reached an agreement with the German club, now coached by Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, and that he would sign a contract until 2027. Now it is Bayer Leverkusen that announces the signing of the footballer.
The 27-year-old winger leaves the eagles after eight seasons – he arrived at Luz in 2016, from Barcelona – and more than 300 games with an eagle on his chest.
This year, Grimaldo has seven goals (one of them on Saturday, opening the 5-1 victory over Portimonense) and 13 assists in 52 games for Benfica. According to some press, the player demanded five million euros clean, per season, to renew.
