The Russian offensive, accentuated in recent weeks in Donbass and targeting Bakhmut and surroundings, as well as Vuhledar, Avdiivka and west of Kremina, may be giving some territorial gains – the mercenaries of the Wagner group announced the capture of another village, Krasna Hora, north of Bakhmut – , but the human costs will be high, if we believe the data provided by the Ukrainian armed forces and analyzed by the British Defense intelligence services.
More Russian soldiers will be dying in Ukraine this month than at any time since the first week of the invasion, according to Ukrainian data. According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 6490 soldiers died on the Russian side in the last week, which gives an average of 927 soldiers per day, when the previous week the data showed 824 Russian soldiers dying in every 24 hours.
These numbers were only surpassed in the week of the launch of the special military operation, in which Kiev estimated the number of daily deaths at 1,140. In total, and only since February last year, Kiev accounted for almost 138,000 deaths on the invading side, a number that must be viewed with caution, although in November the US Chief of Staff estimated the number of dead and wounded at 100,000 for each side.
These numbers are not confirmed by other sources, but for London the trends are “probably accurate”.
