Contrary to expectations, former Vice-President of the European Parliament Eva Kaili will only be heard by the magistrate in charge of the Qatar bribery case next week, as officials at the prison where she is being held, Saint-Gilles, are on strike, but her lawyer in Belgium said that the client was “unaware of the existence” of the money found in the search of her home.
The other suspects were heard, and preventive detention was determined for the companion of the Greek MEP Francesco Giorgi and the former MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri, while the secretary general of the NGO No Peace Without Justice, Niccolò Figà-Talamanca, was subject to house arrest with electronic bracelet.
