Zelensky says Russia should be accused of terrorism over landmines in Ukraine

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Russia should answer for accusations of terrorism and aggression against Ukrainians because of mines placed in the territories they occupied.

In his usual daily address to Ukrainians, the President of Ukraine recalled that there are more than 170,000 square kilometers of territory considered dangerous, due to the mines and explosive devices left by the Russians in the territories they passed through.

For Zelensky, the Russian regime of Vladimir Putin should be accused of terrorism for the massive use of landmines, recalling that four policemen – now posthumously decorated – died because of the explosion of mines in Kherson.

The Ukrainian president also thanked the international help that Ukraine has received in the mine clearance process from Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom and Slovakia.

Russia launched a military offensive launched in Ukraine on February 24, causing the flight of more than 13 million people – more than six million internally displaced and more than 7.8 million to European countries -, according to the most recent UN data.

The Russian invasion was condemned by the international community in general, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and imposing political and economic sanctions on Russia.

The UN presented as confirmed since the beginning of the war 6,490 dead civilians and 9,972 wounded, underlining that these numbers are far below the real ones.
